HOME More WWII Ambuscade

provided by Kevin Allsop nephew of Dennis Swinn

Denis Swinn was my uncle . He served on HMS Ambuscade in 1939/40. I know he was wounded during the course of evacuation duties but that is all. Unfortunately he was killed in an accident while in dock at Glasgow on 8th October 1940. attached are some photos of his mates "Ginger" Rawlinson and Derek Wilson. Denis is buried in Cardonal Cemetary in Glasgow. The lady in one of the photos is Mae Cameron who was his girlfriend. She married somebody else later.

The funny thing is that the phot showing Denis's grave shows a flower vase with his name on it and flowers. Both my cousin and myself have made several visits to the grave or the years and each time there was flowers in the vase. They stopped appearing about 5 years ago. We don't know who provided the vase or who kept supplying the flowers. It certain wasn't any of his family as we all live in Nottingham and only my cousin and myself have visited the grave. We can only assume it was Mae - after all those years...

I'd love to meet her if she's still alive.
